Before I get to my baseball playoff predictions, let’s take a look at how I did with my preseason predictions from my post on April 6, 2009:
AL East:
Boston
New York (WC)
Tampa Bay
Baltimore
Toronto
AL Central
Cleveland
Minnesota
Kansas City
Chicago
Detroit
AL West
Los Angeles
Oakland
Texas
Seattle
Playoffs: Boston over Los Angeles; New York over Cleveland; Boston over New York
NL East:
New York
Philadelphia
Atlanta
Florida
Washington
NL Central:
Chicago
St. Louis
Cincinnati
Milwaukee
Houston
Pittsburgh
NL West
Los Angeles
Arizona (WC)
San Francisco
Colorado
San Diego
Playoffs:
New York over Arizona; Los Angeles over Chicago; Los Angeles over New York
World Series: Boston over Los Angeles
Ok, so I didn’t do that well. I did better in the AL. I had both Boston and the Yankees making the playoffs, albeit I flip flopped the actual finish, as the Sox are the wild card and the Yanks won the division. I totally f’d up the Central, predicting the Indians 1st and Detroit last. I had Minnesota 2nd, so if they lose the one game playoff tonight, I’ll have that one right. I correctly predicted that the Angles would win the AL West, but I gave Oakland way too much credit and Texas not enough. As far as my AL playoff predictions, I have the Red Sox over the Angels, which could obviously happen, and the Yankees winning their first round matchup (albeit against the wrong opponent). My prediction of Boston over New York in the ALCS still has a good shot of happening.
In the NL, I was a total f*cktard. I only correctly predicted only one playoff team- the Dodgers, and had the Mets and Cubs winning their divisions and Arizona (!!!) making it in as the wild card. Juusst missed that one, as Arizona finished 70-92, last in the West, 25 games out.
I have the Dodgers making the World Series, which is still a possibility.
So what do I think now? I’m going to change things up and go as follows:
AL: Yankees over Tigers/Twins in 4 and Red Sox over Angels in 4.
Yankees over Red Sox in 7.
NL: Cards over Dodgers in 4 and Rockies over Phillies in 5.
Cards over Rockies in 6.
World Series: Yankees over Cards in 7.
I probably just jinxed the Yanks and they’ll lose in the first round, but screw it. This is their best team since 2003 and they have the mojo working this year.

You still have a chance at getting one right…
